Sharing the court with NBA stars!

In September I started high school and was quickly selected to join the Basketball Academy. Since then I have been extremely busy with football and basketball together whilst keeping my homework up to date. My Basketball coach’s name is Mr A Keane who is a great teacher. One of the things that everyone in the Academy likes about Mr Keane is that when we train he pushes us harder and harder, the further the year goes on. Coach teaches us great habits that will help improve our game and ability on the court.

On Wednesday 15th January 2014 I was selected along with other friends in the Academy to go to the O2 arena to share the court with NBA superstars. I was thrilled for the opportunity given and cherished the moments. Once we’d arrived at the O2 arena, we were given these NBA T-shirts to wear. Once we were coming through the tunnel and went to watch the Atlanta Hawks players finish of there training, me and my teammates were amazed with the amount of seats in the arena and how amazing the sight of the court was.

After the Atlanta Hawks had finished their training we went onto the court in our groups. The NBA Global Games staff member came over to explain exactly what we were and weren’t allowed to do. Through the hour we covered passing the ball while moving, dribbling with the ball around a set of cones and back, shooting free throws off the back-board into the hoop and fitness which included jogging on the spot, sit ups, burpies and stretching our muscles for a cool down.

After that a group of interviewers were interviewing KG, which is short for Kevin Garnet, and Joe Johnson who was also being interviewed. The Brooklyn Nets manager is called Jason Kidd who’s signature me and all my teammates managed to get. It was such a great opportunity to see the players and to meet them in real life and learn some great skills on the court was a super feeling that I won’t forget anytime soon. One day I hope to meet my idle Michael Jordan!
